The Board provides purpose, leadership, direction and overall strategy for No Strings. Board members ensure that finances are sound, that the operations are legal, that procedures work, that assets are safeguarded and that all tasks are carried out in the public interest.

John Oster - Board Chair

Qualifications: B Arts, Dip Ed, Grad Dip Man (Arts)
Experience: John has extensive Board experience in the Arts sector. John recently completed a 4yr term as Exec Dir of Regional Arts Australia. He has been involved in arts administration for more than 20 years with a strong focus in the First Nations arts sector. He has managed significant Aboriginal Art Centres at Balgo and Mowanjum. From 2004 – 2011 he was the Executive Officer of Desart, the Association of Central Australian Aboriginal Art and Craft Centres. In 2011 John was appointed as the inaugural CEO of the Indigenous Art Code, the national regulatory body overseeing professional practice in the Indigenous art industry.

Tanya Schraa – Deputy Chair

Qualifications: Bachelor of International Studies
Experience: Tanya has extensive nfp Board experience and her work experience is broad: from starting an event planning business, to health education, to travel agency work, to being certified as a mediator. She has volunteered extensively across not-for-profit agencies as broad as the Salvation Army, Crisis Line NT, St Vincent de Paul and the Red Cross.  Tanya has a lived experience of disability.

Autumn Slavin - Treasurer / Public Officer

Qualifications: B.Commerce; Grad Dip Chartered Accounting; ICA Member; Tax Institute Chartered Tax Adviser
Experience: 13+ years as an accountant, specialising in accounting, tax compliance and advisory services to Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) and privately owned businesses across a range of industries. Works closely with businesses to identify opportunities for improvement, plan for future growth and assist achieve financial and other goals .

Abbey McKay - Board Secretary

Qualifications: B. Development Studies, FGLF, Dip Leadership & Management
Experience: Abby was a dedicated member of the Calisthenics Association of South Australia for 21 years before retiring in 2014. Abby has over 7 years’ experience assisting people with disabilities (PWD) to reach their personal goals and live fulfilling and enriched lives through her work. Abby is currently the Executive Manager of Corporate Services and Projects with not for profit organisation, Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. From Abby’s experience, stigma still plays a role within society and this is reason to further educate the community about the strengths/ skills of PWD

Michael Allen - Board Member

Qualifications: Assc Dip Arts, B Arts, B Media, MPhil, PhD (candidate)
Experience: Michael is an actor, director, writer and producer working in theatre, TV and film for over 25 years. He has toured Edinburgh, Australia and Kansas City with his award-winning play ‘A Solitary Choice’, held position of General Manager, published a report about theatre in youth detention and was Creative Producer for New Met Dance (dance in education) for 10 years. He is a leading expert in web-based theatre integrating research and immersive art experiences using emerging technology. He currently teaches Anthropology at the University of Adelaide and consults as part of his creative development practice, Michael Allen Production.

Greg Cashel - Board Member

Skills: advocacy disability education & support
Experience: Greg is a teacher with over 3 decades, as a Primary School Teacher, Special Class Teacher, TAFE Lecturer and Disability Coordinator. He has He has worked with parents /carers of children with special needs, and has provided learning support for young people with disabilities to succeed at school and to gain appropriate employment. Greg is currently the Special Needs Coordinator / ATSI Teacher at Urrbrae Agricultural High School. He also has a keen interest in Film and Drama.

Rob Chalmers - Board Member

Qualifications:LLB (Hons), BA (Hons), GDLP, LLM (Merit), Admitted to Legal Practice
Experience: Rob has a keen interest in the theatre, and was an amateur actor and playwright. He also has extensive Board experience in both the “for purpose” and “for profit” sectors. In addition Rob has three decades of experience in a mix of legal, commercial, educational and management roles. He currently lectures in law at Flinders University, specialising in innovation and technology issues, including the use of human centred design thinking.

Danielle Hibbard - Board Member

Qualifications: Chartered Accountant, Auditor
Experience: As well as working as a chartered accountant and auditor, Danielle is also a youth disability support worker. She has volunteered in social clubs and various capacities, including on organising and events committees.

Michelle Lyon-Green

Qualifications:MBA, Grad Cert Psychology
Experience: Michelle has extensive experience in working in and for organisations aligning people and culture with strategy. For the last two years she has operated her own consultancy business. This has included working in partnership with organisations to improve or transform culture and further develop leadership capabilities. Michelle has also worked with clients to develop strategic people directions, unpack survey results, develop strategic learning frameworks and provided coaching to support change. She is also accredited in a number of psychological assessment tools and has a special interest in positive psychology.

Kathryn McGowen - Board Member

Skills:Publicity, Events and Artist Representation
Experience: Kathryn has been involved in the film and entertainment industry for more than 20 years. In her capacity as State Manager for UIP, Paramount and 20th Century Fox, she has learned and perfected many skills that have seen her excel in the public relations and event management spheres; from promotional partnerships to talent relations, marketing communications to relationship management and strategic planning. Now, having her own publicity and promotions company – KMPR – Kathryn has taken all of those skills she has developed throughout her working career to create an entertainment-focussed publicity and marketing business. Kathryn also cares for family members who live with disability

Kari Seeley - Acting CEO

Skills: administration, business management, not-for-profit sector, broadcast media
Experience: Kari has over 30 years of experience in administration, management, business development, fundraising, event management, training and partnership development, as well as 20+ years in the media (print, radio, tv, online), private enterprise, the not-for-profit sector and in Government.
