The Board provides purpose, leadership, direction and overall strategy for No Strings. Board members ensure that finances are sound, that the operations are legal, that procedures work, that assets are safeguarded and that all tasks are carried out in the public interest.

Ruth Rentschler - Board Chair 

Qualifications: BA Hons (1st) in Fine Arts and H2A Germanic studies, UniMelb PhD, Monash 

Experience: OAM (BA Hons Melbourne; PhD Monash) is an academic and industry leader in the context of arts and culture. Ruth has worked on a number of projects with a disability, diversity and equity focus. This includes projects on social inclusion in times of terror with the Islamic Museum of Australia; boosting audiences for Aboriginal arts; achieving equity for non- profit leaders; career diversity for managers; social inclusion in the arts and disability; and building better non-profit boards. Ruth has a personal and professional interest in disability due to her son having a serious mental health condition.  

Rhett Fraser -Treasurer

Qualifications: B. Commerce, Grad Diploma of Chartered Accounting, Master of Taxation (currently studying).

Experience: Rhett has over 7 years’ experience working in the accounting industry, assisting small to medium sized businesses and high net worth individuals achieve their goals. He is currently the Head of Compliance at a small, cloud-based accounting firm based in Kent Town. Rhett has strong experience in using Xero and being able to develop reporting based on the needs of stakeholders. He is currently studying a Master of Taxation with UNSW which is due for completion in early 2022.

Abbey McKay - Board Secretary

Qualifications: B. Development Studies, FGLF, Dip Leadership & Management

Experience: Abby was a dedicated member of the Calisthenics Association of South Australia for 21 years before retiring in 2014. Abby has over 7 years’ experience assisting people with disabilities (PWD) to reach their personal goals and live fulfilling and enriched lives through her work. Abby is currently the Executive Manager of Corporate Services and Projects with not for profit organisation, Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. From Abby’s experience, stigma still plays a role within society and this is reason to further educate the community about the strengths/ skills of PWD 

Michelle Lyon-Green

Qualifications: MBA, Grad Cert Psychology

Experience: Michelle has extensive experience in working in and for organisations aligning people and culture with strategy. For the last two years she has operated her own consultancy business. This has included working in partnership with organisations to improve or transform culture and further develop leadership capabilities. Michelle has also worked with clients to develop strategic people directions, unpack survey results, develop strategic learning frameworks and provided coaching to support and change. She is also accredited in a number of psychological assessment tools and has a special interest in positive psychology.

Kathryn McGowan

Skills: Publicity, Events and Artist Representation

Experience: Kathryn has been involved in the film and entertainment industry for more than 20 years. In her capacity as State Manager for UIP, Paramount and 20th Century Fox, she has learned and perfected many skills that have seen her excel in the public relations and event management spheres; from promotional partnerships to talent relations, marketing communications to relationship management and strategic planning. Now, having her own publicity and promotions company – KMPR – Kathryn has taken all of those skills she has developed throughout her working career to create an entertainment-focussed publicity and marketing business. Kathryn also cares for family members who live with disability. 

Michael McCrea

Qualifications: Graduate Diploma of Business Studies (Finance Major), Certificate IV in Project Management

Experience: >Michael is a highly regarded adviser in the areas of corporate and commercial banking, with over 30 years’ experience in leading teams and advising to businesses. Skilled in management, business growth planning and strategy development, Michael has a strong capacity for both pragmatic and innovative thinking and this is complemented by his extensive leadership experience. Michael leverages his professional experience and knowledge to support organisations with strategic insight and advice on priorities identified by an organisation. Michael is also a senior coach at the Old Collegians Rugby Club.

Andi Snelling

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts (French and German)/Diploma of Creative Arts (Theatre Studies) - University of Melbourne, Master of Performance (Acting) - Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts London

Experience: Andi is a multi-award-winning actor, writer and theatre-maker with a passion for exploring the human condition. Her career highlights include: Edith in Picnic at Hanging Rock (BBC), Brinda Appadoo (recurring role 2017-2019) in Neighbours (Fremantle Media), being the Inflight Voice for Qatar Airways, and her three solo theatre shows, with her latest, Happy-Go-Wrong garnering standing ovations, a slew of 5-star reviews, winning 5 awards, and being named a “highlight of the year” by The Age. Alongside her performing career, Andi has years of experience as a presenter, educator and facilitator and is now mentoring independent artists. She is also a corporate role-play specialist, a published poet and an Ambassador for the Lyme Disease Association of Australia. Harnessing her own lived experience of chronic illness/disability, Andi is a respected voice on the intersection of art and health. 

Kari Seeley - CEO

Skills: administration, business management, not-for-profit sector, broadcast media

Experience: Kari has over 30 years of experience in administration, management, business development, fundraising, event management, training and partnership development, as well as 20+ years in the media (print, radio, tv, online), private enterprise, the not-for-profit sector and in Government.
